2022 Hyundai Elantra Review | Hybrid, N Trims Revealed
Combining high quality technologies, fuel efficiency, a zippy engine and its poised ride and handling, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra and 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid are remarkably good deals. Low ownership costs are another big plus.
Is this small sedan right for you? In this review, we’ll take a look at all aspects of the Elantra. This includes the exciting 2022 Hyundai Elantra N and N-line models.
SE and SEL Trim Levels
These Elantras are powered by a 147-horsepower base engine. Fuel economy is 43 mph on the highway and 33 mph in the city, according to EPA estimates.. SE models come with a large package of cutting edge driver assistance features, a touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
SEL models are a high-value package. The dash has push button start, dual-zone temperature controls, and more entertainment features. This edition lets you add a convenience package with many of the standards found on the Limited at Earnhardt Hyundai dealers.
Limited Trim Level
Limited models wear leather upholstery, have a driver’s power chair, a wireless charger, and ambient lighting. The split-fold rear seatback has a center armrest with cupholders. The upgraded 8-speaker audio system is a premium Bose. The Limited Exterior is dressier, too, with full LED lighting and a dark chrome grille.
N-Line Trim Level
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N Line is a performance-inspired trim level. It has the 201-horsepower turbo as well as sport enhancements with a special N Line design.
Unique body elements help the vehicle handle sportier driving. The grille gets a red character line. The body picks up black side sill moldings, a lip-spoiler, a special front fascia, and a distinctive rear one with a diffuser. The interior picks up specially bolstered sport seats.
The upholstery is a leatherette and cloth combination with red accents. Other elements are a black headliner and alloy pedals. It also has a bit more tech such as a wireless charger and the Smartphone digital key.
2022 Hyundai Elantra N
New for 2022, the Elantra N rules the road with its 276-horsepower engine and Launch Control. The manual can be exchanged for a dual-clutch automatic where you can enjoy paddle shifters when you want manual driving fun. An over-boost function lets you push a button to claim 10 more horses for up to 20 seconds.
From special sport seats to the N-exclusive steering wheel, the Elantra N shows off its athletic intent. Standards include the Bose audio system for awesome sound and dual screens with digital instrumentation, entertainment and built-in navigation
How to unlock a Hyundai Elantra without a key?
The Hyundai Elantra SEL comes with Blue Link Connected Car Service. A basic Blue Link subscription is complimentary for three years. It includes a remote starter and remote unlock.
The Hyundai Digital Key does even more. This Hyundai system allows you to remotely unlock and drive your car door with an Android phone.
A complimentary service, roadside assistance is part of the package when you buy the 2022 Hyundai Elantra. For five years, if you lock your keys in your vehicle and don’t have Blue Link, you can call for free roadside assistance.
Safety and Crash Avoidance Features
Adding more peace of mind, the NHTSA has given it a 5 out of 5 safety rating. At US News, they rated it at 9.4 out of 100 for safety. The Elantra works with the driver by using cameras and sensors to watch for forward collision warnings, blind spot dangers, and lane departures.
A lane keeping assist and a forward autobrake are active features to provide back up. The forward camera also watches for pedestrians to warn and brake if necessary. The high beams can work automatically, letting the driver concentrate on the road. With higher trims, cyclist detection is added to the forward collision watch.
To avoid parking problems, there are guidelines with the rearview camera. The rear cross traffic alert tries to stop you from having an accident. A rear parking sensor provides a rear collision warning.
When driving through traffic, you can use adaptive cruise control to slow and go. On certain stretches of interstate, Highway Driving Assist does even more, controlling the vehicle lane trajectory as well as speed.
How long do Hyundai Elantras last?
That's a fair question. Hyundai Elantras have been and remain one of the most affordable cars on the market, and it stands to reason that some people would question how long they will last.
Clearly the longest automotive warranties indicate that Hyundai expects the Elantra to have a long road life. Furthermore, the car made the Autotrader List of 10 Best Car Interiors Under $50,000. This speaks to the quality of the interior materials, another aspect of long-term viability.
In its 2022 review, Kelley Blue book notes that the Elantra is a good choice in its class "from the perspective of ownership over five years." Last year the car earned the 2021 5-Year Cost to Own award from Kelley Blue Book.
This isn’t surprising information when you think about how much money good gas mileage saves. It’s also reflective of the fact that the sedan has so much technology to keep it out of harm’s way. This should mean less chance of scratches, dents, dings, or worse!
Hyundai Elantra Pricing
To judge Elantra prices, it helps to know that Hyundai prices are among the lowest in the segment, despite having the maximum dash and safety technology. Kelley Blue Book notes that the Elantra is cheaper than the 2022 Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Mazda3. U.S. News and World Report confirms that the Hyundai has one of the lowest starting prices in the compact car class.
The MSRP of a 2022 Hyundai Elantra ranges from just under $20,000 to just over $28,000. There’s about a $2,000 difference between the SE and SEL and about a $3,000 difference between the SEL and the Limited.
The N Line, the Elantra’s performance editions, come in several trims ranging from just over $24,000 for the manual to under $25,500 for the automatic. You certainly don’t have to wait for a Hyundai Elantra sale to get a good deal at Earnhardt Hyundai.
The 2022 Best Hybrid and Electric Car for the Money was given to the 2022 Elantra Hybrid. The HEV entry-level edition is under $24,000. The Hyundai Hybrid comes in Blue and Limited trim levels.
Value and Cost to Own
Even at the lowest price, the Elantra SE comes with today’s most sought-after driver assistance as either standard. Additional driver assistance is available in a very affordable package. Furthermore, it includes a large display audio system with both Android and Apple advanced connectivity.
Keeping costs in check year after year, the car has remarkable fuel economy whether it is the standard engine or the Elantra Hybrid. The hybrids earn 56 miles per gallon in combined use.
With two years more than rivals, the Hyuundai limited warranty lasts up to five years. With five years more powertrain warranty, the Hyundai powertrain is covered for up to 100,000 miles or ten years. That’s incredible compared to almost every other car at this price point.
