2024 Hyundai Elantra & Elantra Hybrid Review

With a more aggressive stance, the Hyundai Elantra is truly a new ride. It will surprise many onlookers to see its new front end. From the fenders to the wheels, these compact sedans look completely new.

The shark-nosed front wears a two-piece grille that is personalized with a body-color center element. A new front fascia and fenders add to the modernized look. A metallic bar connects the thin LED daytime running lights. There’s no mistaking this ride for the Honda Civic, Kia Forte or Toyota Corolla. It’s truly unique.

Rear changes include a special diffuser with a U-shaped element in silver. The rear fascia is updated to match the front. Along the sides, the C-pillar reflects the Hyundai Parametric Dynamics theme. There are new alloy wheels in four sizes and styles.

The exterior color palette has added some fun new choices. Available across the lineup, new colors include Ultimate Red, Amazon Gray, and Ecotonic Gray. The new exclusive N-Line color choice is Exotic Green.

The interior has been upgraded in many ways. For starters, there are soft-touch front door panels that help elevate the quality feeling. There are new color interior choices and more high tech features.

Driver cockpits look more advanced with the redesigned instrument cluster 4.2-inch screen. There are more USB-C outlets with the addition of two for rear-passenger use. The wireless charging pad has been redesigned, too.

Better than typical compact sedans, the rear seat legroom is ample at 38 inches. Also above average, the cargo hold measures 14.2 cubic feet. You can use remote releases in the trunk to fold the bench flat.

The second-tier trim picks up the largest infotainment system. The top trim picks up a surround view camera and a blind spot camera. The Digital Key has been updated from the original to the 2nd edition. There’s additional Bluelink Connected Car tech.

Shoppers will recognize the four powertrain choices. The 2024 Hyundai Elantra N is a 2.0L turbo that delivers 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. It certainly turns this small car into a speedy sports car.

Engineers utilized a “Flat Power” direct injected system to generate this turbo power. You can get a dual clutch automatic or go for the fun-loving manual transmission.

Standard on the Elantra N-Line, a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 is a powerful engine in its own right. Output is 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

The standard inline 4-cylinder base engine generates 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft. It is the main engine on the SE, SEL, and Limited trims. As with the others, front wheel drive and an automatic transmission make handling easy.

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid utilizes an inline 4-cylinder with its hybrid technology. This allows it to generate 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The excellent fuel economy and high rate of torque make it a logical choice for many consumers. Trim levels include Blue HEV and Limited HEV.

The SE edition has an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. New for 2024, the Elantra SEL now has a 10.25-inch touchscreen. This advanced entertainment system has faster processing and more capability.

Limited trims have many new standards. Forward and reverse sensors help you avoid hitting other vehicles when parking. A surround view monitor shows you a 360-degree view around the vehicle. Even more athletic, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra N wears a distinctive grille, fascia and side sills. There are 19-inch forged alloy wheels covering the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The rear has a special wing spoiler and dual exhaust system.

Special bucket seats wear an illuminated N logo. The cockpit has been redesigned with a sport steering wheel, a distinctive shifter, and a new instrument cluster.

N ride and handling just keeps getting better. Elantra N models fight shakes with new engine mount membranes. Body control is further improved by updates to the ECS hardware.

Steering becomes more precise with the G bushing reinforcements, updated motor-driven power steering software, and a reduction in universal joint friction. The rear suspension with its ABS insulator provides better damping now that it is made with urethane rather than rubber.

The tire pressure is increased from 35 front/33 rear to 36/34 PSI. This aids handling balance by optimizing the front axle load.

From day one, the Elantra’s low price is keeping the overall ownership costs down. Beyond that, the compact sedan has plenty of bragging rights. Fuel economy is rated at 33 mpg in the city. City fuel economy is improved even further by the stop-start tech. It saves gas at every redlight. Even better, the Elantra is rated at 43 mpg on the open highway.

Elantra Hybrids do even better at the gas pump. They earn 50 to 54 mpg combined. The top rate is 53 mpg on the highway and 56 mpg in the city.

In addition, the Hyundai has leading automotive warranties. Limited coverage runs as long as five years, powertrain coverage runs as long as ten years, and complimentary maintenance goes for up to three years.

Hyundai is always pushing forward with safety technology. For 2024, the new Elantra has rear airbags. The seat belt reminder now extends to the back row as well.

It is important that this all new model still earned good marks at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, especially since the IIHS made these ratings much harder. The Elantra is a 2024 Top Safety Pick.
