Rankings and Awards

In comparison, the VW ID.4 in Phoenix is well-reviewed, but it hasn’t won the awards and top rankings that are associated with the Hyundai EV. For instance, at Car and Driver, the Volkswagen EV has an 8.5 rating while the Ioniq 5 has a 10 out of 10.

In fact, the 2025 Ioniq 5 has earned numerous awards this year. Proving the validity of these accolades, you can look back at its previous awards which were equally significant, dating to its introduction.

Furthermore, the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has earned a Top Safety Pick Plus. So far the VW ID.4 hasn’t earned this important award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

    Value and Durability

Despite the ID.4 having a lower initial MSRP, the Ioniq 5 holds the 2024 Best Cars for the Money in its EV class. This US News and World Report award seems to be echoed by the Car Connection, which named the Ioniq 5 as its Best Electric Car to Buy.

If reliability and ownership costs are important to you, consider that the Hyundai brand has much better scores when it comes to Initial Quality and Dependability. In two relevant studies at JD Power, the Volkswagen brand earned some of the lowest rankings in the study.

Then there’s the warranty coverage. Hyundai has industry-leading coverage that Volkswagen doesn’t even try to compete with.  Ownership

    EV Performance Comparison

When it comes to horsepower, the VW EV tends to take the lead. When it comes to torque, the Ioniq 5 tends to have the advantage. In fact, that extra torque is why the Hyundai EV gets a lot of praise for its fast acceleration.

When it comes to battery power, the Ioniq 5 tends to have slightly more at each level. Even more importantly, the Hyundai EV has 800-volt architecture. This allows it to use 350kW fast chargers, boosting it to an 80 percent charge in about 20 minutes. In comparison, the ID.4 has 400 architecture and can only use a 175kW roadside charger. This means a long wait for VW EV owners when they need to restore the charge.

However, when it comes to excitement, the Ioniq 5 is the only one that is considered fun to drive. Even more so, the 2025 Ioniq 5 N is the EV to beat. It creates 601 horsepower which can jump to 641 horsepower with N Grin Boost. At the World Car Awards, it drove away with World Performance Car of the Year. Motor Week proclaimed it Best Performance Car in its annual 2025 Driver's Choice Awards.  Range

    Size and Spaciousness

With their flat floors, both of these electric vehicles have more space than they would as gas-powered models. With more than 106 cu ft of wiggle room, the Ioniq 5 has five or six more cubic feet for passengers. This means more legroom on both rows.

Both have folding second row seats. However, only the Ioniq 5 lets you slide the seats forward to claim a bit more cargo space. These same Hyundai 2nd row seats can recline to make life even more comfortable on the back row.

VW EVs can claim about 2 extra cubes in the cargo hold. Meanwhile, the Ioniq 5 is the only one with a frunk, a small front trunk. It’s also the only one to offer a sliding, flexible front console for maximum storage and versatility.  size

Conclusion

Compared to the 2025 Volkswagen VD.4 in Phoenix, the Hyundai EV has the most advanced technologies and offers the best electric car lifestyle with longer ranges and shorter charging times. Shoppers can be assured that long warranty coverage is the icing on a very good cake indeed!
